About Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) is used to improve sinus function by removing diseased, damaged, or excess tissues from the sinus cavities. The surgery is for patients that have chronic inflammation or abnormal growths in the sinuses. Removal of problematic tissue during this surgery improves drainage of fluid from the sinuses. The surgery is performed endoscopically and can be performed under local or general anesthesia. In endoscopic surgery, the doctor guides an endoscope through the nose to view the sinuses. He or she will then use surgical techniques to attempt to widen anatomical channels to allow fluids to drain from the sinuses.- FESS
