Gastric ballooning is a technique which is used for avoiding bariatric surgery under conditions where patient is extremely overweight etc. In the procedure an inflatable balloon is delivered inside the stomach of the person ususally with the help of an endoscope. The balloon is inflated and is left inside the stomach of the person. The presence of balloon limits the eating capacity of the person and generates a sensation of full stomach after eating a little. Prof. Halil Alış then worked as a General Surgeon in the Clinic of Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital and completed rotation in General Surgery Clinic of School of Medicine in Istanbul University.

He became the Associate Professor of General Surgery in 2010 and undertook Management duties in Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital and in Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital.
