Hydrocephalus is a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) causes the brain to swell. In this procedure, the doctor places a catheter into the brain, a catheter into another part of body, and allows fluid to flow out from the brain. Hydrocephalus patients can also be treated with ventriculostomy, which involves drilling a small hole into the third ventricle in the brain to let fluid drain out of the brain.
