Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (AICD) are used to help treat patients with arrhythmias, or irregular heartbeats. After surgical implantation, the AICD can restore regular heart rhythm by delivering electric pulses or shocks whenever the heart starts to beat abnormally.
