Cervical cancer is cancer (abnormal growth) of an area of the body known as the cervix, which lies between the uterus and the vagina in females. Surgical treatments depend on the severity, location, and stage of the cancer. Surgeries for cervical cancer include loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), modified radical hysterectomy, radical hysterectomy, cryosurgery, laser surgery, and more. In some of these surgeries, such as LEEP, only part of the tissue of the cervix is removed. In other surgeries, such as radical hysterectomy, the entire uterus, cervix, and surrounding tissue may be removed.
