He started training in Neurosurgery in 2002, and completed his research project and was awarded a Master's degree in Neurosciences from University of London in 2005. Thereafter, he joined the higher surgical training programme and successfully achieved the intercollegiate Fellowship of the Royal College FRCS(Neurosurgery) in 2009, and was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Higher Surgical Training in 2011.
Dr. Al-Olama graduated from the Univerisyt of Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2003. He spent seven years at Sahlgrenska University hospital in Sweden where he was awarded the Swedish Board in Neurosurgery. He then completed a Fellowship in Paediatric Neurosurgery and Advanced Pain Management.
