Colorectal cancer is a cancer that starts in the colon or the rectum. These cancers can also be named colon cancer or rectal cancer, depending on where they start. Colon and rectum are parts of large intestines, which is the lower part of the body’s digestive system. They are often grouped together because they have many features in common. Colorectal cancer often begins as a growth called a polyp, which may form on the inner wall of the colon or rectum. There are 2 types of polyps Adenomatous polyps (adenomas), they are cancerous and Hyperplastic polyps and inflammatory polyps, they are non-cancerous. These can be treated using various advanced techniques and the line of treatment depends upon the diagnosis performed by the doctor.
