Myringotomy is a surgery used to drain fluid from the inner ear. Patients requiring this surgery usually have a damaged eustachian tube that prevents proper drainage of fluid. In this surgery, the doctor will make a small incision in the membrane of the eardrum to gain access to the middle ear and remove the fluid.
