Eligibility criteria for Tanzanians applying for Indian Medical Visa

Tanzanian passport holder must full following criteria to obtain an Indian Medical visa:

  • A hard copy of the completely and accurately filled Indian Visa Application form having the photo and signature of the applicant. 
  • Original passport with minimum 6 months of validity and at least two blank pages for Indian visa stamp. 
  • Two recent passport size photographs of the applicant. It is compulsory to upload photograph while applying online. 
  • Photocopy of the passport bio-page with clearly visible pictures, date of birth etc.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate must be carried by Tanzanians travelling to India. The certificate must have been taken minimum 14 days before the arrival date. 
  • Proof of permanent residence of the applicant (at last 3 years)
  • An official referral letter from the local hospital/healthcare centre in Tanzania mentioning the nature of ailment of the patient. The letter should be recommending treatment in India and has to be sent from the hospital’s official email ID. 
  • An official letter from the concerned Indian hospital mentioning the name, contact details and passport number of the patient and the attendant, confirming that the hospital will be providing specified treatment to the patient. The invitation letter should be made on the letterhead of the hospital ad have official stamp and signature of the hospital authority. It has to be sent from the official email id of the hospital. 
  • Copy of the attendant’s passport and proof of relationship with the patient.
  • Full medical history and records of patient’s ailment, including the test reports including blood tests, imaging scans like CT, MRI, etc.
  • Proof of availability of funds establishing the applicant’s ability to bear the cost of treatment and stay for the duration of procedure and recovery.

Steps for filling Online Visa Application Form

  • To start with the visa application, visit https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html and click on ‘Regular Visa Application’ on this webpage.
  • Fill in the details in the required fields on the online form. From the options, select the correct name of the country, nationality, Indian Mission and Visa type. Then fill in the data for expected date of arrival, your date of birth, email ID and other details. Then put in the verification captcha code and click ‘Continue’.
  • There are three pages for online medical visa application form and you have to fill in the information required on these pages and on ‘Continue’. Note your Temporary Application ID before proceeding further. 
  • On these pages, fill in the details pertaining to your personal information, your passport, your present and permanent address, details of family and your occupation.  
  • Then on the next page, fill in the information regarding your type of visa you are applying – Medical visa, details of your medical condition, details of the hospital in your country and hospital in India where you will receive treatment. Enter other information like the duration of visa, the purpose of the visit, expected date of arrival and departure, previous visits to India and other countries. 
  • Then in the next section, provide information of your reference in India – name, address and phone number, and details of reference in your home country. 
  • If you do not have a reference contact in India and plan travel to India for your medical treatment through Lyfboat, we will be happy to assist you. You can use  Lyfboat’s address and phone no. as your reference contact details in India.

  • You can upload your recent passport size photo while filling the online visa application form by clicking on the “Upload Photo” or paste it on the printed copy of the application form. 
  • After completing the third page, click on ‘Save and Continue’. A new window having a preview of the application will appear. Check all the details that you have provided. If there are any errors related to your information, click on Modify/Edit to make the necessary changes. Click on ‘Verified and Continue’ if everything appearing on the screen is accurate.
  • Now the application is submitted and the registration is complete. You can then select an appointment date, as per convenience, on the new window for submission of the printed copy of your visa application at the designated Mission Counter.
  • Note: If no date of appointment is available, you can try logging in the next day to your online visa application. After you are logged in, click on “Reprint” and then “Get Appointment”. Fill in the “Webfile number” and your Date of Birth. If the appointment date is not received within the next 5 days after your registration, you can contact the High Commission office to seek an appointment date.
  • Then click on ‘Confirm Appointment’ and another window will appear with two options – Print or Save. Select the Save option to save the filled application form as it will be lost otherwise. Select ‘Print Registered Application’ on the home page and finally take a print out of the visa application form.
  • On the printed form, put your signature in the box below the photograph and also in the box at the bottom of the second page.
  • Submit the hardcopy of the completed online visa application form and the required documents at the Mission counter on the appointed date (it is available on the right margin of the application form) during the working hours of the working weekdays.

Nationals of Tanzania can apply for eVisa. This visa is issued with a validity of 6 months and triple entries are allowed in the validity period.

Instructions for filling e-Visa Application are given here:

  • Visit https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/
  • Fill in the details in the required fields appearing on the screen. From the options, select the correct name of the country, nationality, Indian Mission and Visa type. Then fill in the data for expected date of arrival, your date of birth, email ID and other details. Then put in the access code and click ‘Continue’.
  • There are multiple pages for online visa application form where you have to fill in your details. Note your Temporary Application ID before proceeding further. After completing each page you can either click on ‘Save and Continue’ or ‘Save and Temporarily exit’. If you choose the second option, you can continue to fill the form later on by selecting ‘Complete Partially Filled Form’ on official Indian visa website. Then put in the Temporary Application ID, enter the verification code appearing on the screen and click on ‘Complete Partially Filled’.
  • Fill in your personal details in the relevant sections and provide information regarding your passport like Passport number, date and place of issue, date of expiry. If you any other passport or Identification Certificate, then select ‘yes’ and fill the necessary information in the required field. 
  • Click on ‘Save and Continue’ to continue with the application or ‘Save and Temporarily exit’ if you want to fill the form later.
  • On the next page, fill up your address details and family related information in the appropriate sections. Click on ‘Save and Continue’ to continue with the application or ‘Save and Temporarily exit’ .
  • Fill up the details related to Visa – select Medical Visa on the Type of Visa tab and eMedical Visa for Visa service. Then provide information about the places you will be visiting, if you have booked hotel/resorts/guest house etc., duration of visa, no. of entries and expected port of exit from India.
  • Fill in the details regarding your previous visa or currently valid visa, such as whether you have visited India previously, if yes then – enter the address of the place where you stayed, cities you visited, last Indian visa no. or currently valid Indian visa no., type of visa etc., whether the permission to visit or visa extension has been refused earlier and state the reason if yes.
  • Proceed by providing other information like the countries you have visited in the last 10 years and whether you have visited SAARC countries in the past 3 years. 
  • Next fill in the details of reference contact details for India as well as in your home country. If you travel through Lyfboat and do not have a reference in India, you can use Lyfboat’s office address and phone number. Use the short one in case it doesn’t fit the space provided –

  • Click on ‘Save and Continue’ to continue with the application or ‘Save and Temporarily exit’ as per your convenience.
  • Another page with a list of additional questions will appear. Read carefully and answer by selecting Yes/No. Click on ‘Save and Continue’ to proceed with the application.
  • Next is Uploading the photograph. Make sure that your digital photo is in the specified size limit (jpeg format with 10 Kb to 300 Kb of size) and have correct dimensions. To resize your photograph, click here or if you are using Lyfboat services, email your photograph for resizing to care@lyfboat.com
  • If you want to upload the photograph later, close the window and click on ‘Save and Exit’. Note the Temporary Application ID to access your incomplete application form.
  • On the next page, upload the required documents and click on ‘Confirm’.
  • A new window will appear with a preview of your application form. Check all the details that you have provided and click on ‘Verified and Continue’ if you are satisfied. Select ‘Modify’ to edit the information.
  • Next is Onlive Visa Fee Payment. If you want to pay right then, click on ‘Yes’ after reading the Undertaking and then on ‘Pay now’. In case you want to pay the visa fee later, select ‘Pay Later’. You can make payment later by clicking on ‘Verify Payment/ Pay e-Visa fee on https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/ and using your Application ID and Date of Birth. Note: Visa application is not submitted till the fee payment is made and it should be done 4 days before your journey.
  • You can print your visa application form by selecting the option on Indian eVisa website if you want to keep a hardcopy of it.

The Indian Medical Visa fee for Tanzania nationals is 78 USD (175000 Tshs) for six months and 114 USD (255000 Tshs) for one year.

Processing Time for Medical Visa from Tanzania to India

Medical visa is usually issued in 3 working days after the day of the submission of the application. It can take upto 5 working days in case of residents for other nations.
To track your visa status, go to the homepage of the official website https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html and click on ‘Visa Status Enquiry’
Fill in the Application ID provided on the receipt issued by Indian Mission/ Agent after submission of your application at the Mission counter.

After your arrival in India:

FRRO Registration

All Foreign nationals are required to register themselves at Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO)/ Foreign Registration Office (FRO) within 14 days of arrival into the country. 

Every foreigner above 16 years of age are required to register by either reporting for registration in person or through an authorized representative at the concerned Registration Officer.

For online registration, go to the official government website https://indianfrro.gov.in/frro/ and fill in the form. Also upload the mandatory documents and your recent photograph. 

Late registration has a fine of US$ 30/ (Rs.1395). This fee might be revised from time to time.

Documents that are required for FRRO registration:

  • Original passport and visa
  • 4 passport size photographs of the applicant 
  • Photocopy of passport pages having the pages bearing the photo, validity, arrival stamp of India Immigration
  • Proof of Residence 
  • An official letter from the hospital where the patient/applicant is taking treatment and the medical documents stating the duration of treatment. (If the applicant is admitted in the hospital, a medical certificate with applicant’s attested photo and certification from the doctor is required)

Indian Medical Visa validity and Visa extension

A Medical Visa to India is issued for one year, and is a triple-entry visa. This allows the Visa holder to enter India on the same visa a total of 3 times during the period of validity. 
The Medical attendant visa is valid for the same time duration. The validity of visa is counted from the date of issue, and not from the date of entry into the country.
If needed, patient can apply for visa extension, in case the treatment and recovery is taking more time than initially planned. For visa extension, one needs to provide certain necessary documents that have to be submitted to State Government/Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which then may recommend it to Ministry of Home Affairs for granting the extension.

List of documents needed to apply for medical visa extension

  • Application form
  • Original passport
  • Indian visa and its copies
  • Official letter/ medical certificate from concerned medical authority stating the details regarding their treatment and time required by them to stay in the country for recovery.
  • Copies of relevant pages of passport including photo page, validity bearing page and page having the arrival stamp of Indian Immigration
  • 4 passport size photographs of the applicant.
  • Proof of residence in India like copy of lease agreement if living in a rented accommodation or copy of utility bills of the landlord if staying at a friend’s place.
  • In case of applicant being already admitted in the hospital, the medical certificate containing applicant’s photo attested and certified by the doctor is required.
  • Medical documents and reports illustrating the details of applicant’s illness
  • Registration certificate/Residential Permit
  • Medical attendant’s visa
