List of mandatory documents to be submitted for Indian Medical Visa Application

  • A printed copy of completely filled Indian Visa Application form comprising the photo and signature of the applicant.
  • Original passport with minimum 6 months of validity. There must be at least two blank pages available for Indian visa stamp. Photocopy of the passport ID page clearly showing pictures, date of birth etc.
  • Two recent passport size photographs of the applicant. It is compulsory to upload photograph while applying online.
  • Applicant must carry Yellow fever vaccination certificate that should have been taken minimum 14 days before the arrival date.
  • A referral official letter from the local hospital/healthcare centre in Uganda specifying the nature of patient’s medical condition and recommending treatment in India. The letter should be sent from the hospital’s official email id to cons.kampalamea.gov.in
  • An official letter from the concerned hospital in India stating the name, contact details and passport number of the patient as well as attendant and confirmation that treatment will be provided by the hospital. The invitation letter should bear the official stamp and signature of the hospital authority and sent from the official email id of the hospital to cons.kampalamea.gov.in
  • Photocopy of the ID page of the passport showing the picture, date of birth and other information clearly.
  • Photocopy of attendant’s passport and their proof of relationship with the patient.
  • Full medical records and history of patient’s ailment. This includes all the test reports including imaging scans like CT, MRI, etc.
  • Proof of residence such as utility bills (should be more than 3 months old) or state issued driver’s license.
  • Proof of availability of funds such as certified bank statement of the last three months or receipt of payment from concerned hospital in India or a guarantee letter from bank establishing the applicant’s ability to bear the expense of treatment.

  • Copy of Birth certificate of the minor
  • Copy of passport from both the parents
  • Visa application should be  notarized and signed by both parents

The steps for filling Online Visa Application Form

You can follow these instructions to apply for medical visa: 

  • Go to https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html and click on ‘Regular Visa Application’ on this page.
  • Fill your details in the required fields on the online form. Keep in mind to select the correct name of the country, nationality, date of birth, type of Visa. Also accurately fill in the expected date of arrival, the date of birth, email ID, etc. and enter the access code. Then click on ‘Continue’.
  • The online medical visa application form has multiple pages and the details on each page have to accurately filled in before clicking on ‘Continue’.
  • Fill in the details in appropriate field under the following sections:  Address details, family details, Marital status and information about your profession. Click on Save and Continue to proceed further or select Save and Temporarily Exit to continue with the application later. Note your Temporary Application ID. When you want to complete the application form, go to Indian visa official website home page, click on ‘Complete Partially Filled Form’, and enter the temporary application ID and the access code.  
  • On the next page, fill the details of the referral hospital in your country and the hospital in India you are seeking treatment from, the nature of your medical condition and the duration of treatment, no. of entries required. Then put in other information like the expected date of arrival and departure, port of arrival and expected port of departure in India. .

  • Provide information in other sections like details of previous or currently valid visa, countries visited in the past 10 years, whether you have visited any SAARC countries in last 3 years and if yes, provide details.
  • A new page will appear with a list of questions and Yes/No options for answer. Read carefully and select the correct answer. After answering all the questions, click on the ‘Save and Continue’ option to proceed. 
  • Upload your recent picture on the online visa application form by selecting “Upload Photo” or you can click ‘Skip and Continue’ to paste your photo on the printed copy of application. 
  • A new page will appear with a preview of the form. Check all your details on this page and in case there are errors related to your information, click on Modify/Edit and make the necessary changes. If everything appearing on the screen appears to be correct, click on ‘Verified and Continue’.
  • The registration is complete now and submitted successfully. Now you can select an appointment date for submission of the printed of your visa application at the Mission Counter by clicking on ‘Book Appointment’. Print your application later by going to indian visa website homepage and clicking on ‘Print Registered Application Form’
  • Click on Confirm Appointment. Another window will open containing two options – Print or Save.
  • First Save the application form. Then click on ‘Print Registered Application’ (on the home page) to print the filled visa application form.
  • Put your signature in the box below the photograph and then in the box that is at the bottom of the second page.
  • Submit the hardcopy of online visa application form along with the mandatory documents at the Mission counter on the appointed date (mentioned on right margin of the application form) during the working hours on the working days.

Nationals of Uganda can apply for eVisa. Visa is issued with a validity of 6 months and triple entries are allowed in the validity period.

Following are the steps for filling e-Visa application -

  • Visit https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/
  • The e-Visa application is similar to online visa application form. Fill in the details in the required fields appearing on the screen. After completing each page you can either click on ‘Save and Continue’ or ‘Save and Temporarily exit’. Note your Temporary Application ID to complete the form later by going to ‘Complete Partially Filled Form’ on official Indian visa website
  • Upload your recent photograph of correct dimension and size on the required page. Then upload the required documents wherever specified and click on ‘Confirm’. To resize your photo, click here or if you are coming to India through Lyfboat, email us your photograph for resizing at care@lyfboat.com
  • Check all the details on the preview of your application form. Select ‘Verified and Continue’ once you are sure that the information provided by you is accurate. To edit the information, click on ‘Modify’.
  • Then the next step is to make Onlive Visa Fee Payment. You can pay right then by clicking on ‘yes’ for the Undertaking and then on ‘Pay now’. 
  • If you do not want to pay at that time, select ‘Pay Later’ and complete the payment procedure later by clicking on ‘Verify Payment/ Pay e-Visa fee’ on https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/ . It will require your Application ID and Date of Birth to access the payment page. Visa application will not be submitted till the visa fee payment is made and it has to be done 4 days before your journey.
  • You can take out a print of your application by clicking on ‘Print your visa application form’ on Indian eVisa website if you want a hardcopy of the application.

The form is to be submitted along with the visa fees between 0900-1130 hrs on working days (except Wednesday – 09.00 hrs – 12.00 hrs) to obtain the visa.

Processing Fee for Medical Visa from Uganda to India

The Indian Medical Visa fee from Uganda is USD 78.4 (295,000 UGX). The fee for Medical attendant visa is also the same.

Processing Time for Medical Visa from Uganda to India

Medical visa processing takes around 2-3 working days from the day of the submission of the application.

To track your visa status, go to the homepage of the official website https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html and click on ‘Visa Status Enquiry’

Fill in the Application ID provided on the receipt issued by Indian Mission/ Agent after submission of your application at the Mission counter.

After arrival in India

FRRO Registration

All Foreign nationals are required to register themselves at Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO)/ Foreign Registration Office (FRO) within 14 days of arrival into the country.

You can report for registration in person or through an authorized representative at the concerned Registration Officer. Everyone above 16 years of age are required to register.

For online registration, go to the official government website https://indianfrro.gov.in/frro/ and upload the required documents and your photographs.

The penalty for late registration is US$ 30/ (Rs.1395). This fee might be revised from time to time.

Documents that are required for FRRO registration:

  • Original passport and visa
  • 4 photographs of the applicant (passport size)
  • Photocopy of important pages of passport such as the pages bearing the photo, validity, arrival stamp of India Immigration
  • Copy of proof of residence (utility bills including electricity bill/telephone bill/municipal bill)
  • An official letter from the hospital where the patient (applicant) will be availing the treatment along with the medical documents mentioning the duration of treatment. (If the applicant is already admitted in the hospital, then the medical certificate containing applicant’s photo attested and certified by the doctor is also required.)

Indian Medical Visa validity and Visa extension

Indian Medical Visa is granted for a period of one year with a triple-entry provision. This allows visa holder to enter India using the same visa for a maximum of 3 times during the period of validity.

The validity period for the visa is observed from the date of issue and not from the date of entry into the country.

To apply for a visa extension in situations when the treatment and recovery is taking longer than initially planned. For extension, application and certain documents are to be submitted at the State Government/Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO. These applications are then recommend it to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) which then grants the extension.

List of documents needed to apply for a medical visa extension:

  • Visa extension application form
  • Original passport and its photocopy
  • Official letter and medical certificate from the medical authority presenting the treatment details and duration of stay in the country for recovery.
  • 4 photographs of the applicant (passport sized)
  • Proof of residence in India such as copy of lease agreement for rented accommodations or copy of utility bills of the landlord if staying at a friend’s place.
  • In case the applicant is admitted in the hospital, a medical certificate with applicant’s attested photo and certification by the concerned doctor is required.
  • Latest medical documents and reports
  • Registration certificate or Residential Permit
  • Medical attendant’s visa
