About Arterial switch operation/ Truncus arteriosis

This is a condition when artries leaving the heart are not connected to the correct ventricles (lower chambers which pump blood to various body parts). In this procedure the arteries are rearranged and are attached to the correct ventricle. This ensures the supply of oxygenated blood from left ventricle to all the body parts and not to the lungs again. The procedure required to gain access to chest cavity and is an invasive procedure.
