About Dacryocystorhinostomy

Dacryocystorhinostomy is a procedure used to treat abnormal tearing of the eye that can occur due to blockage of the tear drainage system. This procedure (which can be performed either endoscopically or externally) improves that situation by opening the lacrimal sac into the nasal cavity, allowing for drainage of tears into the nasal cavity. The endoscopic approach involves a small telescope and instruments, while the external approach requires an incision to access the lacrimal sac.
