About Four Dimensional (4D) Ultrasound

Four Dimensional Ultrasounds are an imaging technique in which the usual 3D type of ultrasound images is replaced with a video like capture of the unborn fetus. A 4D utilizes the same ultrasound waves to form a 'video' of the fetus moving intrauterine. While not recommended for recreational use, 4D helps in detecting visible facial and developmental deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate, which would not otherwise be 'seen' in a 2D or 3D ultrasound.
