About Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus is a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) causes the brain to swell. Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) Shunts can alleviate this condition and other similar conditions by draining the fluid from the brain into the rest of the body. In this procedure, the doctor places a catheter into the brain, a catheter into another part of body, and allows fluid to flow out from the brain. Hydrocephalus patients can also be treated with ventriculostomy, which involves drilling a small hole into the third ventricle in the brain to let fluid drain out of the brain.
