About Lymph Nodes Removal

Lymph Node Removal, also known as Lymphadenectomy, is a surgical procedure in which one or more of the lymph nodes are removed. Lymph nodes are small glands spread throughout the body that contribute to the body's immune system. In some cases of cancer, the cancer might spread to the lymph nodes, which then necessitates their removal. In the surgery, the patient is placed under general anesthesia. The doctor makes an incision close to each lymph node to access it, then removes the nodes. In the case of lymph nodes that are harder to access, the doctor will use laparoscopic methods to access them in a minimally-invasive manner.
