About Myringotomy

Myringotomy is a surgery used to drain fluid from the inner ear. Patients requiring this surgery usually have a damaged eustachian tube that prevents proper drainage of fluid. In this surgery, the doctor will make a small incision in the membrane of the eardrum to gain access to the middle ear and remove the fluid. In some cases, tubes may be inserted to keep the incision open so that fluid can continue to drain from the middle ear. The surgery can be performed either with local or general anesthesia.
