About Ossiculoplasty

Ossiculoplasty is a procedure that involves adjusting, correcting, or fixing the bones of the middle ear that are known as the ossicles. The surgery is usually performed on patients that have conductive hearing loss that results from improper function of these bones in the middle ear. In this surgery, the surgeon accesses the middle ear by a small incision (either behind the ear, or through the ear canal), and then performs the necessary repositioning of the ossicles, reshaping of the ossicles, and/or insertion of prosthetic bones. This procedure is sometimes performed in conjunction with tympanoplasty (reconstruction of eardrum).
