About Renal Angioplasty

Renal angioplasty is a procedure which is administered to remove plaque (blockage) from the renal artery. Renal artery is the artery that supplies the blood to the kidneys. A catheter is inserted usually through groin area and is made to reach the portion in the artery with blockage. The balloon in the catheter is then inflated to break the plaque and this restores the normal lumen of the vessel, thus ensures normal supply of the blood. If required a stent might also be left in the artery to ensure that remains open normally.
