About Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty

In uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, the surgeon reconstructs and/or removes tissue from the throat of the patient in order to treat snoring or disordered breathing in sleep (sleep apnea). Removal of tissue can increase the width of the airway in the patient, allow for increased airflow, and thus resolve some sleep breathing problems. Tissues targeted for surgery include the uvula, soft palate, tonsils, and adenoids.
