About Stapedectomy

Stapedectomy is a surgery of the middle ear used to improve hearing. The surgery is usually for patients who have become hard-of-hearing due to hardening of the stapes bone in the middle ear. It involves replacement of the stapes bone (one of the ossicular bones from the middle ear) with another small prosthetic bone. In this surgery, the surgeon uses the ear canal to access the stapes bone in the middle ear. The doctor will then removes the stapes bone, and replaces it with the prosthesis.
