About Aortic Valve Replacement

The aortic heart valve is important for heart function. Heart valve replacement surgery involves replacing valves that do not function properly or that have been damaged. The surgery is generally reserved for patients whose valves cannot undergo other types of repair. The replacement surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and entails replacing the aortic valve with mechanical or biological replacements. The surgery also requires a heart-lung bypass machine.
