About Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a condition in which the patient experiences symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, and abdominal bloating for extended periods of time. Treatment of IBS can include diet changes, exercise, stress management, and medication to reduce the severity of symptoms. Alosetron (Lotronex) and Lubiprostone (Amitiza) are specifically for patients with IBS. Fiber supplements, anti-diarrheal medications, antibiotics, and antidepressant medications might also help lessen the symptoms.
