About Endoscopy
Endoscopy is a general procedure in which a doctor inserts an endoscope, a tube that usually has camera and/or light attached to one end, into a part of the patient's body in order to view internal structures in minimally-invasive manner. Patients that undergo endoscopy generally have reported some problem with their digestive tracts that their doctors wish to examine. The endoscope can be used for many procedures including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and more. In some cases, along with the endoscopy, the doctor may take tissue samples, or perform small procedures to remove abnormal growths.
