What is the procedure for undergoing a beard transplant in Turkey?

Before the procedure

• A patient should follow a few guidelines to prepare for a beard transplant in Turkey. These include:
• Avoid trimming the area around the back of the head or the jawline at least one month before the procedure.
• Perform skin stretching exercises advised by the doctor
• Avoid going out to prevent the chances of allergy or infections
• Stop taking any prescribed hair loss medication from two weeks before the procedure.
• Stop smoking, starting two to four weeks before the transplant.

During the procedure

• On arrival in Turkey, the patient can schedule a consultation appointment with the surgeon. The consultation will involve a comprehensive evaluation of the hair follicles by the surgeon to understand if the patient is a good candidate for the transplant. The surgeon will also discuss the expectations of the patient and analyze how realistic they can be. 
• Beard transplant is performed under local anesthesia and can take up anywhere around 6 to 8 hours. 
• The surgeon will measure the balding area or the places where the stubble is patchy and uneven. After calculating the hair density around the recipient area, the surgeon will finalize the total number of grafts required in the procedure. 
• The surgeon will collect healthy hair follicles, known as grafts, from the donor area. This can either be the back of the patient’s head or the area below the chin. 
• These grafts will be transferred to the recipient area where there is balding or uneven stubble growth. The surgeon will perform this technique with the help of a specialized microneedle. This method is known as Follicular unit extraction. 
• A single procedure for beard transplant requires 2,000 to 5,000 grafts or hair follicles. This can vary depending on the patient’s face, present condition, expectations, and the style of the beard. 
• The patient can leave the hospital or clinic on the same day of the procedure after the effect of the sedatives wears off.
