How does a penile implant work?
The penile implant consists of a fluid-filled reservoir, a pump and release valve, and two inflatable cylinders. The surgeons insert this implant inside the body with the help of a surgery that lasts for around 60 minutes.
The fluid-filled reservoir is put under the abdominal wall in the groin area while the pump and release valve is inserted into the scrotum. The two inflatable cylinders go inside the penis. When the patient wants to create an erection, he can do so easily by pressing the scrotum which has those pumps and the release valve.
On pressing, the fluid is pumped from the reservoir to the cylinders. The cylinders get inflated and create an erection. In semi-rigid rods, there is no such action as the implant creates one permanent firm penis, which one can handle with hands for intercourse.
