Eligibility Criteria for Indian Medical visa that must be fulfilled by Bangladeshi patients

  • Medical visa may be granted Bangladesh nationals who are travelling to India to avail specialized treatment. Medical visa may also be issued to nationals of Bangladesh who are visiting for diagnosis if they have a prior appointment with a recognized hospital in India and medical records certified by doctor in Bangladesh establishing the medical condition of the patient.
  • The patient should have a confirmed appointment from the recognized/reputed hospital in India.  
  • Three attendants are allowed to accompany the patient on Medical Attendant Visa. The attendants may be the blood relatives or close associates of the patient.

Documents required to be submitted for Indian Medical Visa Application

(See next section for – Instructions on how to fill the online visa application)

  • Original passport with a minimum validity of 6 months, that is on the date of application submission. There should be at least two blank pages for Indian visa stamp. All old passports to be submitted along with mandatory documents on the date of appointment.
  • Copy of the important pages of the passport – first 4 pages and endorsement of validity extension, if any.
  • Recent colored photograph of passport size – to be uploaded on the online application form. The photograph should be clearly showing the front view of the face and open eyes and the background should be light in colour.
  • Proof of residence: such as utility bills (bills of electricity, telephone, gas or water) and a Copy of National ID card
  • Proof of profession:  A certificate from the employer establishing that the applicant is employed at their organization. In case of a student, a copy of ID card from the educational institution.
  • An original medical certificate from the reputed doctor/hospital stating the details of the medical condition of the patient and recommending treatment in India.
  • An official admission letter from the concerned hospital in India, where the patient is seeking treatment, with the name, contact details and passport number of the patient and the attendant.
  • All the medical records and documents of the patient
  • Proof of availability of funds in case of hospitalization or long term medical treatment establishing the applicant will be able to finance the treatment and their stay in India. It can be – Bank statement for past 6 months or a solvency certificate from the bank.

Note: 

  • The date of birth and place of birth in the current passport of the applicant should match with the details in old passport, NID card as well as birth certificate.
  • Applications for Indian visas (all categories except Tourist (T) visa) are accepted on a walk in basis and no online appointment date or E-token is required.

Steps for filling Online Visa Application Form

  • Go to Indian Visa official website and click on ‘Regular Visa Application’ on this page.
  • Fill the information in the required fields appearing on the online form. Make sure to select the accurate details like the name of the country, nationality, Indian Mission/Post and Visa type. fill in the data for expected date of arrival, your date of birth, email ID enter the verification captcha code. Click ‘Continue’.
  • The online visa application form comprises of multiple pages and each page has to completely and correctly filled in before selecting ‘Save and Continue’. Keep in mind to note down the Temporary Application ID appearing on the application. You can use this ID to complete your partially filled form later if you choose to ‘save and exit’ the page.
  • On the next page, fill in personal details, passport details and family related information in the appropriate sections. Click ‘Save and Continue’ to proceed further. 
  • Then continue filling the application by providing details of the visa sought by you, purpose of visit and about your previous visits to the country, and whether Indian visa has been refused to you and if yes, by whom.
  • In the following sections, fill in data regarding your profession, address of the place you will be staying in India, and then provide details of 2 references – one in Bangladesh and one in India.

  • Click on “Upload Photo” to upload your recent passport size photo while filling the online visa application form or paste it on the printed copy of the application form. Read about requirements for photo size and format here.

  • Click on ‘Save and Continue’ after completing the page. Another window with a preview of the application will appear. Go through all the information displayed on this page and make sure everything is correct. If you want to edit the details on your application, click ‘Modify/Edit’. In case all the information appearing is correct then click on ‘Verified and Continue’ to go ahead.
  • Another window will open comprising a series of instructions. If you want to change any of your details on the application, you can still do so by clicking on ‘Cancel’. 
  • Otherwise, select ‘OK’ to complete the registration. Then, on the new window, choose an appointment date that is suitable to you for submission of the printed copy of the visa application at the Indian Mission/Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC).
  • Click on ‘Confirm Appointment’. After this a new window will appear and there are two options on this – Print or Save. Click ‘Save’ to secure the filled application as it will be lost otherwise. Select ‘Print Registered Application’ on the home page and finally take a print out of the visa application form.
  • On the printed form, put your signature in the box below the photograph and also in the box at the bottom of the second page.
  • Submit the hardcopy of the completed online visa application form and the required documents at the nearest IVAC.

The acceptance of visa applications, delivery of processed passports, and other Indian Visa Services are outsourced to Indian Visa Application Centers (IVACs), which are operated by the State Bank of India. IVACs are the largest Indian visa processing agency and are operated by State Bank of India.

Processing Fee for Medical Visa from Bangladesh to India

Nationals of Bangladesh and certain other countries are issued Visa Gratis and no visa fee is charged from them for Indian Visa.  

People applying for visa have to pay visa processing fee of 7-9 USD (600 -700 Taka) per application at the IVAC in Bangladesh. To view the fee structure, click here.

Processing Time for Medical Visa from Bangladesh to India

Indian Visa Application Center/ Indian High Commission normally takes a minimum of three days to process the visa application. This time may vary depending on the nationality or in special cases. 

After arrival in India

FRRO Registration

Every foreign national visiting India is required to register at Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO)/ Foreign Registration Office (FRO) within 14 days of arrival into the country.

It is mandatory for all foreigners that are above 16 years of age to register by either reporting for registration in person or through an authorized representative at the Registration Officer.

You can do an online registration by going to the https://indianfrro.gov.in/frro/. Fill up the form and upload the mandatory documents along with your recent photograph.

The late registration is charged – US$ 30/ (Rs.1395). The penalty chargers might be revised from time to time.

  • Photocopy of important passport pages – showing the clear photo, validity, arrival stamp of India Immigration

Indian Medical Visa validity and Visa extension

Indian Medical Visa can be issued for a period of one year with a triple-entry provision, 6 months, period of treatment or whichever is longer. 

The validity of the visa is considered from the date of issue and not from the date of entry into the country.

You can apply for an extension of your visa in case the medical treatment/recovery is taking more time than initially planned. For visa extension, you need to submit the application and necessary documents at the State Government/Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO). 

List of documents needed to apply for a medical visa extension

  • Application form for Visa extension
  • Original passport. Copy of the passport
  • Official letter and medical certificate from the medical authority stating the treatment details and duration of stay in the country for recovery.
  • 4 photographs of the applicant (passport sized)
  • Proof of residence in India 
  • If the applicant is still admitted in the hospital, then a medical certificate with attested photo of the applicant along with the certification by the concerned doctor has to be submitted.
  • Updated medical records 
  • Registration certificate or Residential Permit
  • Copy of Medical attendant visa
