Mambo M. Mwiimbu had been on a lookout for an effective treatment since her son was diagnosed with end stage renal failure in 2017. The treating doctors in Zambia recommended Kidney transplant surgery in 2018. As the procedure was unavailable in her country, Mambo believed India was the best option. She heard about Lyfboat from a cousin who lived in India and immediately contacted the team. Dr. Suneet Singh had been their contact person since 2018 when she first asked for assistance.

Unfortunately, the related donor backed off/got unwell, and they had to locate another donor, while raising funds. Dr. Suneet put tremendous effort with constant follow-ups, guidance and sharing necessary information they required to finally make a decision. She kept in touch with the family all the while and always assisted in whatever way she could. On the basis of the long-formed trust on the Lyfboat team, the family finally decided to have the kidney transplant at Medicana Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey in 2021. Paper work for Visa to Turkey and clearance from the organ committee was a challenge, but Lyfboat coordinated with the Turkey Hospital team and helped the patient.

Mambo says, “Dr. Suneet assisted them even while we were in Turkey and responded in good time to any queries or concerns that we had. She recommended the best possible options based on our circumstances and preferences. I am very grateful.”

There was donor recipient issue with the ethics committee, and it was taking too long. The family was also facing financial stress due to this. Lyfboat member called and talked to the officials at the hospital for the same. The donor committee finally accepted the case and all went fine

About the hospital, she remarked, “Our stay in Istanbul was exceptional. The hospital had world-class standards, staff were professional and friendly. The service was top-notch, and we were very happy with the treatment given. Real value for the money we spent. ”

As COVID-19 was a scary time and set everyone on edge worldwide, it was challenging to make safe travel arrangements and treatment plans. But Mambo says, “Even with COVID-19, the hospital observed all necessary COVID-19 protocols, and we felt safe.”

Mother of the kidney transplant patient, Mambo – “My son had a successful transplant on March 20th, 2021 and is recovering well. I would recommend Medicana Hospital and Lyfboat to any patient, any day due to the professional and humane manner activities are conducted. Both institutions operate with a real desire to save lives; not for a mere pay. Keep it up!
