Facelift Surgery Cost in India

“The cost of facelift in India range from USD 2500 – USD 4500 (INR 190,000 – INR 340,000). The hospitals in India promise unparalleled health treatments at low-cost packages.

Old age comes with many struggles and issues. Wrinkles, sagging skin, and fine lines are some of the most unwanted effects that a person has to experience because of the increasing age. The skin begins to lose naturally elasticity and becomes loose, standing testament to a person’s age. This could be very disappointing to several men and women.

Cosmetic procedures such as facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, are designed to restore the youthful appearance of the face, making the person look more attractive and fresh. India is one of the most popular countries for cosmetic and medical treatments.

Every year, people from all over the world travel to major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and others, seeking effective and successful cosmetic treatments.

Facelift surgery involves tightening the skin and tissues of the face to get rid of the wrinkles and sagging appearance. This could be done to target the face and, sometimes, the neck region. Facelift India gives permanent aesthetic results and recovery usually takes 10-12 days.

This procedure is usually opted by people who have age related sagging skin, but those who have undergone significant weight loss, or had excessive sun exposure may also benefit from facelift. For international patients, it is advisable to plan their journey as per the treatment and recovery timeline.

As most cosmetic procedure, facelift is also an outpatient procedure and the patient may get discharged from the hospital the same day after the operation. However, experts recommend the patient to stay in the country for almost 2 weeks for proper recovery and follow-up care.

The after effects such as swelling and bruising subside over time and the results start to become more apparent.

Before the facelift

The consultation with a plastic surgeon about a face-lift is an important phase. The doctor will likely discuss and check for:

  • Medical history and exam: The surgeon will ask questions about past and current medical conditions, along with previous surgeries, complications from previous surgeries, history of smoking, and active drug or alcohol use. The surgeon will then perform a physical exam and check if the candidate is healthy enough to undergo surgery.
  • Review medication: The candidate is expected to provide the name and dosages of all medications they regularly take, herbal medications, vitamins and other dietary supplements.
  • Design treatment as per facial features: The plastic surgeon will take photos of the face from different angles and evaluate the features. The surgeon examines the bone structure, shape of the face, fat distribution and skin quality to determine the best options and plan the face-lift surgery.
  • Discuss expectations: The surgeon will talk about the candidate’s expectations for the outcomes of a face-lift. It is important to understand what can be achieved with a face-lift and how likely it will change the appearance and also, what a face-lift can’t help with, such as fine wrinkles or naturally occurring asymmetry of the face.

If the candidate is healthy enough for the surgery, he/she will be advised to:

  • Follow directions regarding medication: The candidate might have to stop certain medications and supplements before the surgery. For instance, blood-thinning medication or supplement may have to be discontinued at least two weeks before surgery.
  • Be prepared: Wear loose clothing and no make-up with a clean face.
  • Avoid eating: The candidate is instructed to avoid eating anything after midnight before the face-lift. It is alright to drink water and take medications that have been approved by the surgeon.
  • Arrange for recovery period: Most patients can go home the same day after this outpatient procedure, but some may need to stay for one night. It is best to arrange for someone to drive them home after surgery and stay for some time.

During the surgery

In a face-lift surgery, the skin is elevated and tightened, along with some underlying tissues and muscles. Face-lift generally takes two to four hours, but it may take longer if another cosmetic procedure is also performed at the same time.

The patient is given a general anesthesia, and they remain unconscious during the procedure. The surgeon may also sculpt the fat from the face and neck, which is removed or redistributed. This is followed by re-draping the skin over the newly repositioned contours of the face.

The surgical incision is closed with stitches or surgical tape. The incisions for the facelift procedure might depend on the technique used and the patient’s preferences. The incision options include:

  • Traditional face-lift incision: The surgeon starts the incisions at the temples in the hairline, goes down and around the front of the ears to end behind the ears in the lower scalp. An incision can also be made under the chin to improve the appearance of the neck.
  • Limited incision: In this, a shorter incision is made that begins in the hairline just above the ear. It continues and wraps around the front of the ear, but does not go all the way into the lower scalp.
  • Neck lift incision: The incision starts in front of the earlobe, continuing around the ear into the lower scalp. The surgeon may also make a small incision under the chin.

There are various methods to perform the facelift procedure. Some only target the skin area, while other techniques involve repositioning the facial tissues and muscles. These techniques include:

  • Mini Facelift: This option is more preferred by people who want a less invasive operation and those who have premature aging. As the least invasive technique, it involves small incisions and lesser complications. It could be a temporary solution in comparison to the other techniques.
  • SMAS Lift: The superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) is the layer beneath the skin, comprising tissues and suspensory ligaments. The doctor first starts with tightening the skin by folding the layers over each other, and give the jawline and cheeks a definite, desired shape.
  • Skin-only Facelift: In this surgery, the surgeon only lifts the skin and leaves others tissues, muscles, including the SMAS. it is not a long term solution, and the problems may resurface soon, but, there are fewer risks and complications in comparison to the other techniques.
  • Composite And Deep-plane Facelifts: These are two different techniques in which deeper muscles as well as tissues of the skin are repositioned and fixated. However, these are riskier and often have more complications, but gives a long-term result to the problems of the skin.

Recovery after Facelift

After the surgery, the patient may feel slight pain or discomfort along with swelling and bruising on the face. This can be managed, and the doctor will likely prescribe pain medication. The incision site will be covered with bandages to ensure gentle pressure on the area, to minimize swelling and bruising.

A patient may also have a small tube placed under the skin behind one or both the ears. This is to help drain any excess blood or fluid. The doctor will give the patient the instructions about caring for the dressings or drains and make a follow-up appointment. It is best to take enough time to rest and recover after the procedure. Here are some things to keep in mind during the recovery:

  • Avoid the sun: It is best to stay away from direct sunlight for the first few weeks of surgery. The UV rays of sun can harm the operated skin and cause patches and discolouration. Also, when finally stepping out in sun, slather the skin with lots of sunscreens. Choose a good sunscreen with good amounts of zinc oxide. The doctor could also be consulted about the best option for the sunscreen.
  • Use less cosmetic products: Avoid using any product on the skin that has not been approved by the doctor for at least a couple of months. The newly repaired skin requires some breathing time. Do not use harsh products on the skin as they may affect the skin and success of the surgery. The doctor may often recommend mild, medicated, and gentle on freshly operated skin.
  • Choose healthy food: A healthy lifestyle and a good diet are important for proper recovery. It should have a lot of proteins, all kinds of vitamins, and minerals in the diet. Add products rich in Vitamin C which encourages the production of collagen and Vitamin E which helps the scars to heal faster. Other ones such as Vitamin A keeps the skin moist while Vitamin B12 improves the production of new skin cells. Protein helps increases the elasticity of skin. Keep drinking lots of water to keep the skin hydrated.
  • Avoid smoking: It is recommended quitting smoking after all kinds of surgery as nicotine may delay recovery. In addition to slowing down the process of healing, nicotine may also cause the skin to age more rapidly.
