Plastic surgery Procedures
Plastic surgery is a surgical speciality in which the shape and structure of the face and other body parts are altered or reconstructed. It involves mainly two types of procedures – Reconstructive surgery and Cosmetic procedures, depending on the patient’s need for surgery.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, reconstructive surgery, also commonly referred to as plastic surgery, is focused on the repair and reconstruction of facial and body defects due to congenital disorders, trauma/injuries, burns, and disease. It is dedicated to the correction of dysfunctional parts of the body and are basically reconstructive in nature.
Whereas, cosmetic procedures are performed to enhance the aesthetic appearance of a person. These are elective procedures as they do not improve or change the function of the operated area. The aims of cosmetic surgery is to change or alter the facial or body parts to improve the aesthetic appeal, symmetry, and proportion.
Based on the data released by The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), the 5 most popular procedures are breast augmentation surgery, Liposuction, Eyelid Surgery, Rhinoplasty, and Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck).
Some popular procedures for cosmetic surgery in Turkey include:
Breast Augmentation: Also commonly known as a boob job, it is the most popular aesthetic surgery worldwide. An augmentation mammoplasty aims to increase the fullness and projection of breasts and improve the symmetry of the breasts. This helps enhance the self-image and self-confidence in many women who are not satisfied with their breast size.
For this, breast implants can be used to restore/improve breast size. Breast Augmentation in Turkey is offered with a variety of breast implant options, including saline and silicone gel-filled implants. Fat transfer breast augmentation is another procedure in which fat from another part of the patient’s body is used to increase the breast volume.
Rhinoplasty: Also commonly referred to as nose job, is another popular cosmetic surgeries. In this, the surgeon alters the structure or reshapes the patient’s nose to improve the appearance and sometimes breathing. A person may opt for only reshaping the tip (tipoplasty), reducing the look of nasal flaring (Alarplasty) or reducing the bony hump at the upper part of the nose. The best hospitals for Rhinoplasty in Turkey offer affordable cost packages for international patients.
Liposuction: Liposuction is a popular cosmetic procedure to maintain body contour and shape. Many people face the problem of some stubborn fat tissue deposits in certain parts of the body, that remains despite strict workout and diet. Liposuction aims to remove excess fat accumulation and restore contours in particular body parts, such as thighs, hips and buttocks, abdomen, upper arms, back and more. This is performed for a person who otherwise has a healthy body weight and therefore, it is not a weight-loss method.
There are different techniques for liposuction in Turkey. However, all the methods involve the use of a thin tube, called a vacuum-linked cannula, which absorbs fat from the body. The most common technique is Tumescent liposuction, in which a solution of sterile saline, lidocaine and epinephrine is injected into the area of the fat deposit. This technique has the benefits of less bleeding, less pain and easy suction. Another technique is the ultrasound-assisted liposuction. In this, sound wave energy is used to melt or break up the walls of the fat cells under the skin. The solid fat is emulsified or liquefied, which is then suctioned out.
Laser-assisted liposuction involves the use of laser energy to melt or liquefy the fat. Then the cannula is used to suction out the liquefied fat. After the surgery, there might be mild pain and swelling in the area from where fat is suction, or, even bruising on the skin of this region. This is normal and the symptoms spontaneously disappear within a few weeks.
Abdominoplasty – commonly known as Tummy Tuck, is a type of cosmetic procedure in which only abdominal fat and excess skin are removed. The aim is to provide an aesthetically pleasing look of the abdomen. Abdominoplasty is the most popular aesthetic surgery for body shaping. It helps correct and eliminate the loose and sagging abdominal skin, stretch marks, and other deformities. After the loose and sagging skin of the lower abdomen is removed, the muscles of the abdomen are stretched so that they appear taut.
Tummy tuck cost in Turkey is very economical, especially for the patients from abroad, such as European countries, the USA and others.
Other commonly sought aesthetic and cosmetic procedures include:
Breast lift or mastopexy: It is a surgery to enhance the appearance of the breast that might be sagging due to age-related loss of elasticity. Other factors, such as hormonal changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight gain/loss may also contribute to the sagging of breasts (ptosis). During breast uplift, the surgeon removes the excess skin and then repair the ligaments that suspend the breast tissues. The surgeon reshapes the surrounding supportive tissues of the breasts and enhances the volume, resulting in naturally young and firm breasts.
Arm Lift – also referred to as Brachioplasty. In this procedure, excess skin and fat in the undersides of the arm are removed to eliminate sagging and obtain a toned look for the arms. The skin of the underside of the arm is stretched during the arm lift. Loss of thickness and elasticity of the skin is a common phenomenon that may occur due to ageing and weight gain/loss. The elastic and collagen fibres in the body get distorted and deformed with age while the subcutaneous fat tissue shrinks. An arm lift procedure can correct the sagging skin of the arms and restore the contours.
Eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) – This procedure aims to correct the sagging of eyelids and restore a naturally youthful appearance of the face. With age, the loss of skin elasticity and weakening of supportive tissues results in sagging of the upper eyelid and under-eye bags in the lower eyelid. These changes in eyelids give the face a tired and older appearance. Upper eyelid surgery has shown successful results in patients. Eyelid surgeries can be combined with or done as a part of other aesthetic procedures such as filler injections, laser resurfacing, facelift or forehead lift.
Facelift or rhytidectomy: This is a surgical procedure to reverse the signs of ageing on the face and neck. The surgeon removes the excess skin and tissues on the face, and stretches the skin to give it a youthful appearance. Other procedures such as fat transfer or fillers may also be suggested to restore the volume. Skin treatments such as dermabrasion, chemical peels or laser treatments can also be used to improve the quality and texture of the skin. It can be combined or included in other procedures such as forehead uplift, eyelid surgery and cheek augmentation.
